Best Romance Anime of All Time – Delain’s Picks [UPDATED!]

My top priority for including a “romance anime” in this list is that it must not be a harem. Even if the main character ends up with just one person in the end, if there are multiple love interests who all get significant screen time and clearly have feelings for the lead, I won’t include it. This should help explain why many popular titles didn’t make it into my recommendations.

I also value emotional depth and realistic romantic progression over popularity. There are some popular shows, but they do not necessarily provide the type of relationship dynamics that I find significant. Furthermore, animation and quality of writing count — even if the romance has potential, horrible pacing or character development is a turn-off for me.
